In early 2006, RISA partnered with Thompson's Secretarial and Administration Services and provided them with a grant of $2,500. This grant allowed the company to acquire additional computer resources and the ability to train low-income high school graduates in the administrative skills they need to be employable in a competitive local market.
Thompson's Secretarial and Administration Services provides local businesses of varying sizes with reliable administrative staff and services. Thompson's also assists a growing community of entrepreneurs and small businesses with much-needed guidance when registering a company, applying for financial support from the government and other resources, streamlining financial systems, understanding company law and more.
Thompson's also provides access to typing services and internet research for local high school students - few of whom live in homes with computers.
Thompson's Secretarial and Administration Services also links large companies looking for secretarial help with individuals who cannot finish high school but are looking to be trained in office administration skills. Thompson's trains these job-seekers and places them with local employers in desperate need of quality secretaries and administrators.
Thompson's aims to become the premier provider of secretarial and administrative services in Atlantis and surrounding areas. RISA's grant, by helping grow Thompson's capacity to meet the local demand for highly skilled office workers, is contributing to expanding employment opportunities for low-income women and young people in one of South Africa's previously disadvantaged communities.
