Building Grants Program? RISA's Small Business Capacity Building (SBCB) Grants Program helps alleviate poverty and unemployment by providing access to the equipment, management training and technical skills that small businesses need to create jobs and economic empowerment in South Africa's poorest communities. RISA's SBCB Program provides grants to businesses that are not yet at a stage where an investment requiring a short-term financial return would be feasible. While access to capital is a major obstacle faced by small businesses in South Africa, the lack of technical skills often poses equal or greater restrictions. Capacity-building grants from RISA enable companies to train and hire staff, conduct market research, purchase low-cost equipment, or refine their business plans so they may grow, prosper, and create sustainable jobs and lasting economic opportunity in South Africa's low-income communities. RISA's program and overall mission continue to be based on the needs of local communities as expressed by our South African partners. In a country with an unemployment rate of over 40% the potential for small businesses to substantially contribute to sustained levels of employment and job creation is great. Support from RISA is helping small businesses develop their full potential, create jobs, and grow the small business sector in some of South Africa's poorest communities. As part of our SBCBG program, RISA has developed a new class focusing on financial skills training and managing HIV in the workplace. Through a partnership with the South African business support organization, RED (Real Enterprise Development) Door, and Immanuel Business Solutions, this class is training business-owners in some of South Africa’s poorest communities to strengthen and grow their businesses. |
